Who is responsible
Just a Pause is made and run by Adrian Viziteu in Romania, the data controller for everything described here. Questions, requests and complaints all go to adrianviziteu@gmail.com.
The Mac app
The app has no account, no sign-in and no analytics. Nothing about how you work, when you pause or what is on your screen is sent anywhere.
- Your settings and statistics stay on your Mac. Break history lives in a plain JSON file inside your Application Support folder, and preferences live in the app’s own defaults. Deleting the app and that folder deletes all of it; the help page names every file.
- No invasive permissions. The app never asks for Accessibility or Screen Recording. It reads window sizes and power assertions to know when to hold a break back — never window titles, screen content, the camera, the microphone or your keystrokes.
- Licences are checked with Polar. When you activate a licence, or when the app re-checks one you already entered, your licence key is sent to Polar so it can confirm the purchase. The app also fetches its public licence configuration from justapause.com.
- Updates come from GitHub. The app checks a signed update feed and downloads new versions from GitHub, so GitHub sees the request the way any download does, including your IP address. You can turn automatic checks off in settings.
This website
The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps short-lived server logs containing request details such as IP address and browser — the ordinary record any web server keeps, used to serve pages and to spot abuse.
Page views are counted with Vercel Web Analytics, which is aggregate and cookieless: it does not set advertising cookies, does not build a profile, and does not follow you to other sites. There are no third party trackers, no ad networks, and no marketing pixels. The break demo on the homepage runs entirely in your browser; its settings never leave the page and reset when you reload.
Buying a licence
Polar Software Inc. sells Just a Pause as merchant of record. Checkout happens on Polar’s own pages, so your card details never reach this website or the app. Polar collects what a sale needs — your name, email address, and the billing and tax details for your country — and sends you the licence key and the receipt.
What reaches Adrian Viziteu is the order itself: the email address you bought with, the country used for tax, and the licence key. That is used to support you and to keep the licence valid, nothing else. Polar’s own privacy notice covers the payment data it holds as merchant of record.
Writing to me
The contact form sends your name, email address, optional subject and message through Resend, which delivers it as an email. It is read and answered by Adrian Viziteu, kept in the mailbox as long as the conversation is useful, and never added to a mailing list. Please leave passwords, licence keys and payment details out of it.
What never happens
- Your data is never sold, rented or shared for advertising.
- There is no profile of you, no cross-site tracking and no behavioural advertising.
- Your screen, your camera, your microphone and your keystrokes are never read.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for a copy of the personal data held about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to how it is used, or ask for it in a portable form. Email adrianviziteu@gmail.com and you will get an answer within 30 days. If you believe something has gone wrong, you can also complain to your national data protection authority — in Romania, that is the ANSPDCP.
The lawful bases are simple ones: performing the contract when you buy a licence and it has to be validated, and a legitimate interest in answering your messages, keeping the service running and preventing abuse.
Children
Just a Pause is not directed at children under 16 and is not knowingly sold to them.
Changes
If this notice changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Nothing here is applied retroactively to data already collected under an earlier version.
